Hauhine, Raiatea & Taha'a Islands Tahiti

Three smaller Society Islands, Huahine Island, Raiatea and Taha’a Tahiti provide travellers with more peace, quiet and solitude - but still offer the wonderful Polynesian culture and gorgeous scenery.

These islands offer much to see and do, with water sports a popular pastime. Or why not just relax and enjoy a picnic on one of the many beautiful beaches or take in a gorgeous sunset? There are also adventure sports on offer, like hiking and climbing tours, or for something completely different – a shark feeding adventure. Shopping is also enjoyable with wonderful local galleries offering arts and crafts, and farms offering famous black pearls.

On Raiatea, discover many archaeological sites, including the huge ancient temple of the Taputapuatea and see the Tiare Apetahi flower – so rare it only grows on Mt Temehani even though botanists have tried in vain over the years to grow it elsewhere.

Explore Mt Temehani by foot or on horseback, or take a 4WD safari tour. You can also explore the Faaroa River by outrigger canoe.

Slightly smaller and less populated than Raiatea, Taha’a is renowned around the world for its perfect weather, sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities. Taha’a is nicknamed the Vanilla Island, due to the constant sweet smell of vanilla from the island’s many vanilla farms.

Huahine is a fascinating and interesting island to explore, due to its steep mountains and masses of lush green tropical, jungle-like scenery. It’s easily explored in a day or two. Take in Fare Village, or do some jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling or a guided walking trip (with an island map).
